A Dialogue with XueMo on Writing and Inner Observation
❓ Question
You’ve mentioned that anyone who encounters your work becomes “flammable” and “ignited.”
How does the act of writing — as an external expression — help further cultivate one’s own inner reflection?
🟩 Response from XueMo
This reader is clearly someone with a sincere and profound pursuit in this field — an insider, so to speak.
Questions raised at such a professional and insightful level are rare.
🔍 Inner Observation Requires Training
The way an external act like writing can elevate and deepen inner observation is not accidental — it is the result of long-term cultivation.
First, one must undergo training in inner observation. Here, “observation” contains two levels:
- 🧘 General yogic observation cultivated through ordinary practice
- 🕯️ Deeper Eastern contemplative observation rooted in Chinese spiritual cultivation — what we call xiudao (cultivating the Way through practice)
Ordinary external yoga training alone makes it difficult to elevate inner observation further.
🧭 The Role of Systematic Cultivation
Only through deep, structured, and systematic training can true inner observation be realized.
Such systematic cultivation requires:
- 📜 authentic lineage
- 🔗 genuine transmission
- 🧱 long-term disciplined practice
Many of my works explore precisely this kind of transmission.
Through training within such a lineage, one may gradually enter a state of unity with the Dao — with the Great Way and with truth itself.
In ancient China, this state was described as:
☯️ The unity of Heaven and humanity
🔥 When Inner and Outer Become One
Once this unity is attained, any external action — including writing — will naturally deepen inner observation.
Why?
Because the boundary between inner and outer has already dissolved.
- 🌊 All external actions remain inseparable from inner awareness
- 🪞 One no longer leaves inner observation to engage the world
- ⚡ Instead, every action arises directly from awakened awareness
At this stage:
There is no longer any difference between the inner and the outer.
🖋️ Writing refines the mind
🔥 Awareness ignites expression
☯️ Inner and outer move as one
